Alexa Ruane- Blog Journal #1

    Good afternoon! My name is Alexa. As a sophomore at Florida State University majoring in Social Sciences Education, I am largely looking forward to learning about educational technologies in order to improve my techniques as a future educator. Some of my hobbies outside of school include working out, spending time with family and friends, and playing with my golden retriever named Summer.  I am excited to learn more about my classmates in EME-2040! 

    In modern society, technology is an essential component of an educational setting. Without platforms like Zoom and Canvas, we would be unable to continue learning in the midst of a global pandemic. However, in my experience, educational technology has been crucial since primary school. Whether it be educational videos of 'Bill Nye The Science Guy' or programs like Khan Academy that help in prepping for the SATs, technology plays an immense role in schooling.

    My personal learning network consists of resources both online and offline. Similar to many of you, I heavily depend on canvas and zoom to succeed in my learning goals. Some other resources that I prefer to use include Google Docs and texts that relate to my classes. I really appreciate having access to these resources because they are a tremendous aid in helping me to effectively learn.

    Hi Alexa, my son always wants to have a golden retriever and I always told him "someday" when we move to a permanent place. However, I am not sure if I can live with such a big dog. Summer looked very gentile in your Flipgrid video, though. As for the PLN, let's think about your dog PLN to help your understanding. You may want to learn how to train Summer, what foods are good and bad for Summer, what you can do when Summer is sick, and more... In this case, you can ask to your friends who also have golden retrieve, get some helps from vets in your local area, or visit online communities to get some information and knowledge. You can also find some YouTube videos and follow some professional dog trainers or vets. We often use two-way technologies such as social media and Wikis to connect with people to learn. We call it Web 2.0 technologies. The PLN includes both offline and online places but we will focus more on online places where we can use those Web 2.0 technologies to build our teacher PLN. Hope you can get some better ideas about PLN throughout this semester.
