Participation Portfolio Item: MOOC (31)

  This course, which is offered by Berkley, is titled "The Foundations of Happiness at Work". In this course, students learn advantages of being happy at work, how to identify barriers of being happy at work, researched ways of boosting happiness at work, and strategies to evaluate levels of happiness.  This course, which is offered at SDG Academy, is titled "Ethics in Action." In this course, students learn about virtue ethics and how it relates to religion and philosophy. Additionally, students will be able to explore how sustainable development is affected by establishing multi-faith consensuses.

       As I think about being a future high school educator, I believe I will implement data collection within my classroom to check in with how my students are feeling. Not only will this allow me to take into consideration modifications for students, but it will help me to understand what I need to improve about my teaching techniques. One idea that I have is to have an online survey session on each Wednesday. This will allow me to ensure that I can improve my students’ mood and understanding before the end of each week. In reviewing my classmates’ blogs, I learned a great deal of information! More specifically, I found Oliver’s post about Web Design extremely well thought out and fascinating. It seems that his research was very accurate and in depth. Additionally, his site was very aesthetically pleasing and easy to navigate. I can’t wait to see more of his content!   As a whole, my experience as a distance learner this semester has been positive. Although I ultimately prefer in person classes, I appreciate being able to attend classes from anywhere. This option has given me the opportunity to visit home more frequently, but I feel as though it has limited my individual capabilities as well as the option for group collaboration. As a future educator, I believe I could improve students’ experience as an online learner by having new and exciting online activities and encouraging them to participate in online sessions. I  Open educational resources can be defined as copyrighted material that is available for public parties to use for educational purposes. In other words, teachers are allowed to present these materials as well as change or recreate them.
