As I think about being a future high school educator, I believe I will implement data collection within my classroom to check in with how my students are feeling. Not only will this allow me to take into consideration modifications for students, but it will help me to understand what I need to improve about my teaching techniques. One idea that I have is to have an online survey session on each Wednesday. This will allow me to ensure that I can improve my students’ mood and understanding before the end of each week. In reviewing my classmates’ blogs, I learned a great deal of information! More specifically, I found Oliver’s post about Web Design extremely well thought out and fascinating. It seems that his research was very accurate and in depth. Additionally, his site was very aesthetically pleasing and easy to navigate. I can’t wait to see more of his content! Looking toward the future, I would like to expand my technology-related skills. More specifical...

As a whole, my experience as a distance learner this semester has been positive. Although I ultimately prefer in person classes, I appreciate being able to attend classes from anywhere. This option has given me the opportunity to visit home more frequently, but I feel as though it has limited my individual capabilities as well as the option for group collaboration. As a future educator, I believe I could improve students’ experience as an online learner by having new and exciting online activities and encouraging them to participate in online sessions. I  Open educational resources can be defined as copyrighted material that is available for public parties to use for educational purposes. In other words, teachers are allowed to present these materials as well as change or recreate them. As an example, I researched an OER that was published for social sciences educators: https://www.oercommons.org/courses/100-people-a-world-portrait . This open educational resource allows ...

Teacher pages on school websites are an amazing tool to help students, parents, and teachers to stay informed and effectively communicate. Although my alma mater didn’t require teachers to maintain a set of class pages, I was able to find a local high school that did. Leon High School’s common literature teacher has a very well organized and informative teacher website that includes student resources, assignment due dates, and classroom updates. The classroom blog also made it very easy to locate the teacher’s information in order for parents or students to contact her.  https://www.leonschools.net/Domain/4925   I fully plan to incorporate technology such as a classroom blog into my teaching practices. My classroom blog will be a platform for students and parents to visit that includes resources I discuss in class, announcements, assignments, important classroom documents, a classroom calendar, and much more. I would also like to create a student forum so that my...

In the initial steps in completing my assignments using Diigo, I was confused by the site’s formatting and layout. After joining the EME 2040 Diigo group, the structure made more sense. However, I personally prefer using a browser to bookmark external sites. This could simply be because using Diigo has been a learning experience for me and I am not fully comfortable with it yet. Additionally, I prefer doing annotations by hand on paper because it is much more effective for my learning technique.  I have thoroughly enjoyed using blogging in this class! I like interacting with my classmates and hearing their thoughts. This allows me to broaden my perspective and reflect on the curriculum of this course. So far, I have bettered my skills in precisely answering prompts and learned how to navigate the educational platform Blogger.  One collaborative Web 2.0 tool that I might use when I become an educator is Edmodo. I used Edmodo all throughout high school and really enjoyed ...

Although I have used Twitter as a social media for many years, I have recently been using it in a more professional setting. My early experiences using Twitter in education have been characterized as beneficial. This platform allowed me to effectively communicate with classmates and interact with professionals. Twitter might be helpful in my future career as an educator in that I could create an account for classroom updates and important information.  The term digital divide is defined as the gap between individuals who have access to technology and those individuals who do not. This divide is especially present within the educational communities. Those students who do not have access to technology suffer by not being able to participate in a very digitally centered environment (online classes). Some causes of digital divide is the lack of access to those who cannot afford certain technologies experience. As a future educator, I would try to implement a system of educationa...

The concepts of copyright and fair use help teachers to know what they may do under the law. Copyright is a succession of governmental laws that restrict the application of someone’s ideas or products. On the other hand, fair use is the act of applying copyright laws justly. The process of fair use is characterized by proper citations when using an author’s work in ways that they explicitly allow. As an educator, I think it is more beneficial to use original ideas to effectively teach students. With that being said, it can also be beneficial to utilize fair use and apply other’s ideas to your lesson plans while properly citing them. As a teacher, it  is also very important to ensure that your students are practicing fair use in completing their assignments, as plagiarism is a common issue in education. Platforms like ‘turnitin.com’ can be extremely helpful in ensuring that copyright is not present in students' work.  In my experience, the application of technol...
